I took Effexor for six months, three years ago, and went off gradually. Brain shivers, heart palpitations, panic-inducing nightmares, difficulty concentrating and \'fear\' remain. I have never been the same from this stuff. The first dose caused a monumentally negative reaction, which two doctors said \'happened with some people\', but when I felt better, it would really improve my \'depression\'. It got worse. The doctors from whom I sought other opinions continued to increase the dose. The psychological and physiological effects were beyond surreal. After two weeks at the maximum dose I could bear it no more and told doctors I was too toxic to continue, so they each gave me the same reduction schedule. The withdrawl was very trying. The constant horrors of being on this drug are vivid memories, but it was almost a year before I felt the stuff was no longer running things. I wish I had never had anything to do with it. Counseling was not effective before, during, or after this episode. I think I feel this way is because I am smart, not a chemical imbalance. Effexor may have caused one. I have had negative changes in my life that I attribute to it.
