The more sugar you consume, the more insulin your body needs to produce to metabolise that sugar... it comes to the point (when you are "hypoglycemic") that your "insulin sensitivity" becomes diminished...and your body's cells become insensitive to insulin's effects, and even more sugar becomes required to have the same effects ("sugar high") as before; for hypoglycemics, sugar has a drug-like effect, and when they become less sensitive and have less of a "buzz" from it, they need more; that's why hypoglycemics should maintain healthy level of protein and complex carbs in their diet (because simple carbs like sugar) create that "high" and "crash"), and they should eat like every 3 hours so their blood sugar doesn't plunge.
