sinusitis, post nasal drip

I had my first sinus infection 2 years ago. I have avoided them since, by boosting my immune system whenever I feel a cold coming on. This time, I wasn't so lucky. I got a full fledged cold. 6 days into it, I thought I had it licked and then I was up all night with a drip, sore throat, cough etc. I am worried that every time I get a cold now, my sinuses are going to swell up and I am going to require antibiotics. Does anyone have any ideas? I found this "nasal irrigator" on the web that you can buy and hook up to a waterpik. Has anyone used it and if so, is it effective? (I have done my own solution of salt water snuffed up my nose). Thanks for any help.
