Mirena and hormone nightmare

I have just had my mirena removed today. I had it fitted on 03/03/04 to replace a normal hormone-free coil. The other IUD gave me heavier periods than usual, 10-14 days with 2-3 heavy bleeding. PMS started a week before, where I would feel more tense and tired than usual, but still in control. I had the mirena fitted to help with the heavy periods. The gynae discovered a second bout of endometiosis in 10 years. (I have 2 children). Since insertion I have had at least 6 initial weeks of HEAVY bleeding and loss of large blood clots, which was controlled by drugs to stop bleeding. Consequent periods have been lighter but very long and mainly brown in colour. I realised about 4 weeks ago I was more tired than normal, no energy at all, as though I was pregnant (which I am not), then leading up to the period 2 weeks of PMS from Hell, one minute ok, next either crying or yelling. This continued for 2 further weeks and I called my gynae who immediately saw me. He had thought that in 6 months all side effects would settle, however when I mentioned the PMS he said my symptoms were getting worse and that 1 in 20 women will have an adverse reaction to the proestreogen in the coil. He removed it immediately. He wants to wait 6 weeks to see how I am without any foreign hormones. I feel fortunate that he has reacted so quickly as some of you don\'t seem so lucky. I know I will feel better knowing I am in control, because, for me the hormones were making my life a misery. Perhaps the bloatedness, breast swelling and wanting to eat all the food in the cupboards will go too!! I will keep you posted of any interesting changes.
