Lung Nodule: Nothing

I found this site yesterday as I was waiting for the results of my second CT scan to follow up on several small lung nodules. The nodules were found because I had a routine chest X-ray and the radiologist thought he saw a very small shadow. My doctor ordered a CT scan, which showed nothing in the area the radiologist questioned, but it did show several small nodules. My doctor had me wait four months and then have the scan repeated. The follow up scan showed that several of the nodules had simly disappeared and the two remaining ones had shrunk.

My doctor explained that nodules are very common and are often a result of a minor infection.

So I encourage everyone who has had lung nodules found by a CT scan not to assume they are necesarily serious or cancerous. I am 56 and a smoker, so of course I was frightened. And I am now committed to quitting.

There is so much anxiety in all the posts about this topic, so I hope that in sharing my positive outcome, I can help others be a little calmer. Modern medicine is wonderful, but I often wonder whether some of the diagnostic techniques cause a great deal of unnecessary anxiety and fear.

I hope for the same positive outcome for everyone who has posted their fears and questions.
