I had a follow up CT Scan with no change. I also had a PET Scan per my request. I am being VERY aggressive to get a diagnosis. The PET Scan came back negative (no cancer) but they will not say it is benign because PET Scans are not 100% accurate with a nodule this small.
This is my health issue and I do not let the doctors decide how long in between scans (my 2nd one was 6 weeks after the 1st). I pay for the health insurance, I am the patient, and I will not sit back and let them decide everything. Yes, they know more than I do, but I have my comfort level and intuition. It is also my life.
I have chosen to have VATS surgery (they use scopes; minimally invasive) to have this nodule removed. If it is benign, then I will be able to sleep at night and stop worrying 24/7. If it is malignant, the upper lobe of the lung is removed and they say I can have a total cure.
The doctors are in a difficult position when a lung nodule is found. All they can do is give us options. They are difficult to diagnose, and we need to make a lot of decisions. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SPEAK UP (WITHIN REASON!)
I am comfortable knowing the \"not knowing\" will be over in 2 weeks. I could not handle waiting months at a time to see if this has grown.
I wish everyone the best of luck with their own situations...
Peace
