Wow. I have just been reading all the replies to this posting. I did not know this syndrome was so common. My daughter was diagnosed with this in 1986 and had a lumbar shunt put in which needed adjusting or reinsertion a few times after that. She got along on this quite well until about two years ago when everything went out of whack! She went to several doctors in SLC and U of U Hospital. She had another shunt put in and then another and then one in the brain. From November 2002 until Sept 1, she had over 16 operations for taking in and taking out shunts. She was on several medications of which I do not know the names. After her last operation on Sept. 1, she passed away in her sleep on Sept. 2. This is a terribly painful condition that can get really stressful and debilating. She also got an infection in her intercranial spinal fluid. Make sure you have a good neurologist and neruo-surgeon and well as a special eye doctor. God Bless my daughter, she is out of pain.
