I have PTC (also known as benign intercraniel hypertension). I was diagnosed 2/8/02 by the ophthalologist I work for. After my lumbar puncture, they put me on Diamox which has seemed to control it pretty well. The biggest thing I can tell you, just from owrking in the field, is to keep an eye on your eyes - your optic nerves and visual field tests. That is what you want have checked every four months or so because you can have visual damamge if left untreated. The medicine has weird side effects, that go away after a few weeks. Your face, hands, and feet will tingle or even go numb. Itis a weird feeling. your appetite will decrease from the drug. Not because it makes you sick, you just aren\'t hungry! I lost alomst 10 pounds int he first two weeks from the medications and the lack of things you aren\'t allowe dto eat...no caffiene, limited green leafy veggies, no birth control, only certain anti biotics. But you know what, My opening pressure in my spinal cord was 480 after it squirk spinal fluid out of the measuring tube three times. My nuerologist was surprised I didn\'t have brain hemorrahge because of my fluid pressure (normal was 180) Needless to say, a few restrcitions are fine with me considering I was diagnosed 1 week before my son\'t one year b-day! Hang in there, every one\'s case is different, and work with you docs!
