I can relate to your daughter. I am 32 years old and diagnosed with PTC almost 10 years ago. I, too, had a \"normal\" first pregnancy. My second pregnancy was much different. I constantly had headaches to the point that I could hardly stand. Light bothered me and I was always nausiated. I would go to the doc only to be told that it was hormone changes. Since I was pregnant, obviously I could only take non-narcotic pain killers which did nothing at all. I remember being told that caffiene gets rid of headaches. So every day I drank a Coke (not diet) and ate a candy bar (usually Snickers was the only one I could keep down). This took care of my headaches until the next day. I did gain alot of weight by doing this, somewhere in the vicinity of 35-40 lbs. I continued with headaches after delivery and was told they were caused by staring at the computer monitor. So I went to the optomitrist where he dialated my eyes and was immediately referred to an opthamologist. Long story short, I was diagnosed with PTC. They tried Diamox and I hated (and still do) the way it makes me feel. I seem to loose sensations in my arms and feet. Simply things like vacuuming would make my hands and arms fall asleep. Since then I have tried Midrin (which I am allergic to) and Fiornal. Midrin has ALOT of caffiene and Fiornal is a narcotic so your daughter won\'t be able to take it until after the baby is born. The trick with Midrin and Fiornal is to take it at the onset of pain; don\'t wait til the headache is excrutiating. I have also found that a strong cup of coffee can help take the edge of and make an episode more tolerable. I have dropped some weight (about 40 lbs) and found that I only seem to get headaches right around my monthly.
I hope that your daughter delivered a happy and healthy baby. I also hope her health has improved.
Take care and keep smiling!!!
