I have had PTC for almost 10 years now and it seems as if, with all the research that I have done on the subject, that the PTC treatments and symptoms are somewhat unique to the individual who suffers from it. I know that the \"last resort\", if you will, is a shunt. I have never gone that route considering that usually the treatment of diamox will clear it up for a while. PTC only comes back for me with weight gain. So sometimes it is as simple as weight loss to regulate the pressure. What I do know about PTC is this...no one really knows why it happens, what will truly treat it, or how long you will suffer from these horrible headaches. Only your body will tell you what is working. There are many common treatments. Diamox, steroids, weight loss, the discontinuance of regular meds such as birth control, tetracycline and a few others, there is also surgery. My advice is to try the easiest ones first, like stop taking birth control and see what happens. But try them all. Like I said, I feel as if this problems is unique to the individual, so treatment will vary as well. I know that it all seems like crazy talk, especially when you are hurting so bad. I know that you might feel isolated and that no one around you understands the pain. But I do. Just be diligent with your treatment and know that there is light at the end of the tunnel...and I promise you...it is NOT a train! :)
