California Senate Bill 907 has become law, and the Bureau of Naturopathic Medicine is issuing licenses. However, there are onerous restrictions for N.D.’s in that SB 907 that N.D.’s in neighboring Arizona do not have. N.D.’s in Arizona can what they are trained to do and most of what an M.D. does, thanks to champions such as Dr. Weil. Dr. Weil has always been ahead of the pack, even before naturopathic medicine began gaining acceptance as a authentic and licensed practice of medicine. However, Dr. Weil appears to look at N.D.’s more from a complementary as opposed to an alternative medicine. Weil is an M.D. The modern-day N.D. is being well trained and licensed to provide both complementary and alternative modalities to conventional medicine. Naturopathic medicine should be and will be part of the integral fabric of healthcare, because more and more people are becoming aware of it and, therefore, are requesting it.
