California Health Freedom Act signed into law – Naturopathic Medicine Network

The California Health Freedom Act was signed into law by Governor Gray Davis on September 23, 2002; this bill allows full practice of alternative healing methods by non-licensed individuals, within certain clearly defined parameters; as of January 1, 2003, Naturopaths (as well as others, such as herbalists and homeopaths) will be allowed to freely practice their healing art in this State. Thus California joins Minnesota, Rhode Island and Oklahoma in allowing non-licensed alternative health care-within certain clearly defined boundaries-to be freely practiced. Many of us support this legislative trend toward free, non-licensed practice of alternative healing-let voluntary professional associations of practitioners set their own educational and ethical standards and represent these to an informed public; we don’t need state boards setting up monopolistic policies in natural health care! All honor to those who succeeded in passing this landmark health freedom bill in California!
