Hi All,

My name is Beth I am a 27 yr old female who has been on Effexor XR for over 2 years. I was on 450 mg until 6 days ago when I decided to go col turkey.

This is not a prudent thing to do but I have managed to find ways to cope with the discomfort and pain.

My symptoms:

Headaches, brain freezes, shocks, dizziness, nausea, vomitting, heart palpatations, sensativity to sound, light and smells, insomnia, nightmares,

out of body experiences, irritability, chills, itches, sweating, gas, burping, sadness and panic attacks. Don’t go through all this by going cold turkey, tapper it off if you can.

Here are some things that I have done to help ease the pain:

– get a support team, someone to call, take care of you, pamper you. You can not go to work or drive cars while going through this.

-Get stocked up on fruit juice, light soups, jellow, and pudding. Think light and not salty or sweet. Drink lots of water. Ginger helps to sooth an uneasy stomach so add it to your hot tea or soup. Think baby food. Pepto-Bismal is a God send I have been using it every day. Cranberry juice also helps to detoxify your system but drink it watered down. Keep away from citrus or anything very acidic.

-Take hot showers sitting down to help aid nausea, bain zaps and chills. Take your time and use a lightly scented soup you like.

-Use loation or baby powder for your skin if it itches or is sensative, plus scent has nice soothing effect.

-Use dimmed lighting in the house, wear shades inside or outside, wear hats to keep light to a minimal and to keep head warm. Ear muffs help to soften sounds that irratate too.

-wear layers to keep warm, make sure feet and head are covered, keep head underneath blanket for extra comfort. Keep night light near for nightmares, or those trips to bathroom in the middle of the night.

– GNC sells a herbal supplement that is suppose to help etoxify you body called Cleansing formula, I haven’t tried it myself but anything is worth a try.

-Keep positive, talk to others if you can, keep a pen and paper by your side to write if you become angered. And try not to take it out on those who are helping you out.

There is hope at the end of this tunnel, ths day is almost over and that will be almost a full week with no meds going cold turkey. One more week and I should be closer to a tolerable recovery. Good luck and stick it out! A new beginning is around the corner….

thanks,

Beth
