I was almost on my way to regular medical school when my good friend (Harvard/Brigham and Womens) took me aside and told me that what he was doing was killing him and that I should get out. I strongly suggest reading JAMA’s survey articles on residency. Another close friend said that the public sees doctors like the actors on ER while the doctors themselves know the reality is like Scrubs. Being an ND is like any alternative to the mainstream, everyone gets lumped together (think Green party). So while I practice review article evidence based medicine, my fellow ND may only be doing Polynesian hymn bodywork. The truth is, the vast majority of the population simply doesn’t know we exist. Oh, and if you decide to go MD, apply to U of Arizona and do Dr. Weil’s program.
