I first found that acidic foods like citrus, tomatoes and peppers caused my excema to flair up. Avoiding those foods with only occasional pizza or small amounts of something greatly reduced the itch and pain. (Even one bite of pineapple does me in, boo hoo.) Recently I’ve tried a diet with almost no gluten. Again I have had great results. Gluten is in wheat so all pasta, bread, baked goods and many cereals are out. This is very difficult. But I’ve found some substitutes at coops and health food stores and I can eat rice and potatoes and smaller amounts of corn tortillas and chips, etc. I used to think that things I put on my skin caused my excema, but I don’t anymore. See Doug’s response about checking out allergies including food. He had some websites and you can certainly find more. I haven’t found that doctors are any help in this. Only recently has a dermatologist admitted that foods may cause flare ups because desperate sufferers had tried elimination diets on their own. Stress also plays a role so find activities that make you feel better including exercise.
