Hi. My 9 yo dghtr has been on the med coaster since 3yo. She was ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Mood Disorder, then Bipolar. We have tried Risperdol, Zyprexa, Seroquel, Catapress, Ritalin, Wellburtin, Topomax, Tenex. I finally took her to a Neurophyscologist to see a different angle. She was finally diagnosed with PDD/NOS. This is not necessarily what your son may have. However, The doctors and school only think immediate timeframe. He will need a liver in 10 years too. Please seek with vigilance the true nature of his troubles. It will take time, but trust yourself. You are his best advocate. Just because they make a med for everything, doesn’t always mean it is what is best. If after the child is on a med for 30 days or so, and he/she doesn’t improve or gets worse, often it isn’t the right med at all. (sometimes-the meds can cause exaserbation of symptoms). That doesn’t mean a higher does is the answer. Please continue to investigate alternative evaluations before playing russian roulette with meds. Look into a Neurologist/possibly therapy. But there are alot of holistic ways to care for him. I will keep you both in my prayers and will share more if you are interested.
