I began taking Effexor five years ago, after my husband and I divorced. I took 75 mg for a year or so and I began having roller coaster emotions. My family doctor (mistake 2) increased my dosage to 150 mg, again after a year or so I began with mood swings. The answer up the dosage…. Now up to 300 mg a day and my emotions dulled I went on for another year and began with the same mood swings. This time I switched doctors, to another family doctor (mistake 3) The new doctor decided to slowly reduce the effexor and introduced Welbutrin. I found my emotions very “flat”” not my normal self. No sex drive, flat emotions, no interest in things I have always enjoyed, etc. So 3 weeks ago I decided enough, I gradually decreased the Effexor until I was taking 37.5 every other day. 5 days ago I stopped completely. Even with a very slow reduction I am experiencing “”brain shivers””, nightmares, weepiness, extreme irratibility, dizziness and the list goes on. I have found 2 things from other Effexor Withdrawal postings that help me, Dramamine is one, the original seems to help most, if you can take a nap, it made me very sleepy, and second is Benydryl, also made me sleepy. Even though I was sleepy, it helped with the nightmares, dizziness and the swooshy feeling in my head.
